Staring Guide
⚡ What is Staring?
Staring is an entirely new video game where you play classic party games with people online worldwide. We use facial recognition algorithms to provide a unique game experience that wasn't possible before (such as Staring Contest online, etc..). With Staring, you can safely play and chat with other people as each game requires a face in the video, so you won't face anything you don't want to see.
🎮 How to play?
The game is available on different devices on the web, including mobiles. To start, you need a device with a webcam and microphone. Make sure that your webcam has enough quality to recognize your face.
🎲 Matchmaking
Use matchmaking to play with strangers: pick any game on the home page, select a desired difficulty, give your webcam and microphone access, complete the validation (more in the next section), wait for the opponents, and join the fun!
🤙 Rooms
Use rooms to play solo or with your friends: create your room on the rooms page, join it, give your webcam and microphone access, pick a game, send a link to your friends, select a difficulty, and start to have fun!
💡 Tips and tricks
To join any game mode matchmaking, you must complete the validation by repeatedly blinking three times. This is a crucial stage as it proves that facial recognition and blink detection works and also you are a real person. Feel free to do it as nobody sees you before the game start. If you can't complete the validation, follow these tips to solve the issue:
1. Make sure you have enough light and your face is visible. If not, you can try to turn on the light using the light switch in the header or just turn on the light in your room;
2. Make sure you sit close to your webcam (the distance between your face and you is no more than 0.75 meters or 30 inches);
3. If you wear glasses, try to remove them during the game sessions;
4. Make sure you have a stable internet connection.
Remember that your face has to be in the frame; otherwise, you will be disconnected from the game session and need to complete the validation again. Don't worry if it happens; you will be reconnected to the session if it hasn't finished yet.
